Director of Facilities, Maintenance, and Transportation

RSU 26 is seeking qualified applicants for an opening in the position of Director of Facilities, Maintenance and Transportation.  This is a full-time, year-round position offering competitive wages and an excellent benefit package. The position supervises the operation and maintenance of the physical facilities of the district and oversees district student transportation services. The responsibilities of the position are broad in scope and encompass a wide range of activities and duties.


Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Construction, Building or Mechanical Technology or closely related field is preferred, or five years of equivalent work experience in building maintenance and operations, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. 
  •  Practical field experience in building systems including structural, mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and grounds maintenance.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated knowledge of the basic principles used in cleaning and maintenance of facilities and personnel management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building infrastructure, storage and materials handling, maintenance equipment, tools, custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Familiarity/awareness of common building codes, life safety codes, workplace safety, Maine Department of Labor safety guidelines, energy management, capital improvement and maintenance planning, project management, budget planning and management.
  • Technology proficiency with email, calendar, spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) Approval

Special Education Teacher

RSU 26 is looking for a high energy, professional special educator to work at the elementary school level.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of elementary age students’ learning and social/emotional needs. High School Teacher of Mathematics

Orono High School–a 370-student school in the university town of Orono, Maine–is seeking a dynamic and student-centered educator to join our learning community at the start of the 2024-25 school year. The ideal candidate has a passion for mathematics as an avenue for empoweringing students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic world where adaptability, critical thinking, and quantitative literacy are essential for success. This is a full-time position that includes teaching one section of AP Statistics; other course assignments will depend on department needs and candidate strengths. Training in AP Statistics will be provided for the right candidate. Maine educator certification in Mathematics (300) is preferred, but other certified/certifiable candidates with aptitude for subject matter and willingness to pursue mathematics certification will also be considered. ☀SUMMER PROGRAMMING! ☀

RSU 26 in Orono is looking for high-energy and innovative educators and staff members to assist with our summer programming to fill several  part-time positions (K-12 Extended School Year - Special Education, K-5 Summer Stars, High School Math Credit Recovery, Middle and High School SEL Programming).  See below for specific information.


Summer programming will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays  from June 25th - July 25th  from 8:30-11:30am (staff will work 8am -12pm each day).

Ed Tech II- PreK Classroom

Asa Adams Elementary School in Orono is looking for a full time ed-tech II to join our learning community in Pre-K for the remainder of the 23-24 school year and beyond. The suitable candidate should be organized, self-motivated and enjoy working with our youngest learners! This position would involve assisting with the implementation of educational activities, helping children with their personal hygiene needs, assisting with the maintenance of a safe and healthy learning environment, and helping the  teacher with record keeping and other administrative tasks.

Food Services

RSU 26 is looking for a responsible and motivated individual to help plan, prepare, and serve students nutritious meals in a clean, efficient, and friendly atmosphere. 

This individual should be comfortable leading and instructing other food service staff.  The position requires long periods of time standing and the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. Good communication, math, and computer skills are a must. Experience with Excel, Word, and the Google platform is preferred. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential.  

Food safety and cooking skills are required, and knowledge of school nutrition is preferred.  A Serve Safe Manager certificate is highly recommended.  A criminal history records check (CHRC) from the state of Maine is required for employment.  This is a full-time (25 -30hr) position Monday to Friday with benefits included.  Pay dependent upon experience.

 The selected candidate must meet the following qualifications

  • High School Diploma/ Equivalent

  • Maine Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) clearance is required to begin work

  • Ability to work effectively, flexibly, and harmoniously with others including students, staff, and administrators

  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, ability to climb to the height of the school roof/ceiling

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment normally associated with high-traffic facilities

  • Ability to meet/complete responsibilities as listed in the job description.
